At the foot of the Akposso Plateau, Badou reveals the Akrowa Waterfalls, its cocoa plantations and authentic rural Togo. Your complete travel guide.

Badou is a major city in Togo and the capital of the Wawa prefecture. Located at the foot of the Akposso Plateau in the Limité plain, part of the Volta valley's Togolese stretch, Badou serves as the hub and principal marketplace for this small border region specializing in cocoa production. Badou is the country's other breadbasket. The city's inhabitants are nearly all farmers, traders or civil servants, with agriculture dominating everyday conversation.

The harvest begins in early November, and Badou transforms into a center of feverish activity. Farmers converge on the city with their agricultural produce, and large trucks depart the Litimé plain laden with coffee and cocoa destined for Lomé and export. During the rainy season, Badou displays lush vegetation, striking landscapes and delightful aromas.
